Phonetic variation and its spatial distribution in urban Austria: /l/-vocalization as a sociolinguistic marker?

Abstract: This paper investigates German /l/-vocalization in the dialect region of South/Central Bavarian. In Austria, /l/-vocalization is said to be restricted to Central Bavarian, constituting the most salient dialect feature.
