Inhaltsiibersicht Durch homogene Komplexbildung mit Dibenzoylmethan in methanolischer Losung gelingt die quantitative Trennung des Thoriunis und des Cers von den iibrigen Seltenen Erden. Der fur die Fallung des Thorium-dibenzoylmethan-Komplexes aus Methanol erforderliche pH-Wert -4-5 ltann durch Zugabe von methylalkoholischem Ammoniak oder homogen durch Hydrolyse (bzw. Alkoholyse) von Urotropin erzielt werdeu. Der bei letzterer Methode zugleich entsteliende Formaldehyd halt Cer in der Oxydationsstufe Ce+++ in Losung. Nach Verkochen des Reduktionsmittels erfolgt in Gegenwart des Dibenzoylmethans bzw. auch anderer /?-Diketone spontane Oxydation yon Cer(II1) zu Cer(1V) durch Luftsauerstoff. Der Cer(1V)-Komplex des Dibenzoylmethans verhalt sich ahnlich wie der des Thoriums und fallt unter bestimmten Bedingungen ebenfalls quantitativ ( p~ -8). Lanthan und die ubrigen Seltenen Erden bleiben kornplex in Losung und konnen mit methylalkoholischer Oxalsaure gefallt werden. Thorium kommt in seinen Mineralien im allgemeinen mit den Seltenen Erden vergesellschaftet vor. Nach dem AufschlulS eines solchen Mineralsz. B. des Monazitssteht man vor der Aufgabe, zunachst Thorium und die Seltenen Erden genleinsam von den ubrigen Begleit-element>eri abzutrennen und anschlicfiend analytisch oder praparativ das Thorium von den Seltenen Erden zu trennen. tfber die Abtrennung des Th von SE liegen bereits Untersuchungen vor. Zur analytischen Bestimmung und praparativen Trennung von Thorium neben Seltenen Erden, insbesondere Cer und Ceriterden, werden aulSer verschiedenen anorganischen Reagenzien in der Hauptsache zahlreiche Carbonsauren verwendet.
