Phenylarsine oxide (PAO) induces apoptosis in HepG2 cellsviaROS-mediated mitochondria and ER-stress dependent signaling pathways

Abstract: Arsenic trioxide (AsO) is an old drug that has recently been reintroduced as a therapeutic agent for acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). Although AsO is also applied to treat other types of cancer in vitro and in vivo, it has been reported that single agent AsO has poor efficacy against non-hematologic malignant cancers in clinical trials. Recently, a few reports have indicated that organic arsenic compounds can be a possible alternative for the treatment of AsO-resistant cancers. In this study, we aimed to in… Show more

“…The change in lipid mobility evoked by PAO and the decrease in the CM amplitude are 382 consistent with the DX-52-1 findings; however PAO is unspecific (25) and will affect many 383 proteins found in stereocilia, which likely explains why the effects on sound-evoked motion 384 and on electromotility differ from those of DX-52-1. 385…”

“…Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is emerging as a modulator of different pathologies and as an important mechanism contributing to cancer cell death in response to therapeutic agents [15, 16]. In several instances, oxidative stress and the onset of ER stress occur together [17, 18].…”

“…The ROS generation assay was performed as previously described (32). The SGC7901 and BGC823 cells were exposed to various concentrations (0, 10, 20 and 30 ” M) of corilagin with or without NAC for 24 h, washed with PBS, and resuspended in culture medium (without serum) containing 10 ” M DCFH-DA.…”
