“…2 Another split-face trial 3 comparing the Baker's classical peel (2.1% croton oil/50% phenol) with Hetter's medium-heavy peel (0.7% croton oil/33% phenol) of the "Heresy" formulas (1996) showed that while both formulas had similar efficacy in seven female subjects, the Hetter's formula had fewer side effects. Hetter's "Heresy" Formulas (1996) still used "drops" as the measuring system for the surfactant and croton oil and introduced words to describe on the final concentration of croton oil in each formula, 4 as follows: "very light peel formula," "medium-light peel formula," "medium-heavy peel formula," "heavy peel formula," and "heaviest peel formula (Baker-Gordon)" 5 ; in 2000, the formulas were standardized to the metric system, and with fixed volume and phenol concentration to 35%, 4 with the adoption of Hetter's stock solution to facilitate measurement in milliliters by the use of syringes, as used in the trials by Cardoso et al 1 and Neitzke et al 2 Animal model experiments found similar exuberant neocollagenesis. Biopsies at 21 days after Hetter's 1.6% croton oil/35% phenol peel showed increased expression of type III collagen compared to type I collagen.…”
