Phason and amplitudon dynamics in the incommensurate phase of bis(4-chlorophenyl)sulphone

Abstract: 35Cl nuclear-magnetic-resonance (NMR) measurements were run at high d c magnetic fields in a temperature range close to the phase transition at T i Ϸ 150 K into the incommensurately (IC) modulated phase of bis(4-chlorophenyl)sulphone (BCPS). Line-shape calculations in the IC phase show the typical features with edge singularities and reveal that the frequency distribution is essentially of static nature. NMR spin-lattice relaxation times T 1 were measured at various dc magnetic fields. The T 1 values at higher… Show more

“…Shintani et al assumed from the results of molecular dynamics simulation for a one-component two-dimensional liquid that locally favored structures exist in the supercooled liquid state . This view is based on a pseudospin concept, which is applicable to describing the dynamics of the PC phase where two energetically stable states in the double-well potential for twisting of single thiophene ring in P3AT can be fictitiously assigned to two spin states (up and down). The network of the locally favored structures corresponds to a sort of pseudospin cluster, resulting in frustrated states during further crystallization of PC to C. Consequently, both glassy and crystalline states are preferentially realized with respect to decrease of temperature.…”

“…Raman scattering experiments reveal the phason and amplitudon of the charge density wave mode in the charge stripes of La2−xSrxCuO4 [14]. Phason and amplitudon dynamics in the incommensurate phase of bis(4chlorophenyl)sulphone was reported in course of 35 Cl nuclear-magnetic-resonance measurements [15]. Kedziora et al [16 ] have claimed first experimental evidence of Goldstone mode in superconducting pyrochlore Cd2Re2O7.…”
