“…They were able to prepare Sr 2 TiO 4 , Sr 3 Ti 2 O 7 , and SrTiO 3 by holding appropriate mixtures of SrCO 3 and TiO 2 at T = 1648 K. However, heating to T = 1748 K was required to get the single phase of Sr 4 Ti 3 O 10 . Tilley [10] was able to obtain only three compounds Sr 2 TiO 4 , Sr 3 Ti 2 O 7 , and SrTiO 3 from SrCO 3 and TiO 2 in the temperature range (1513 to 1673) K. Wei et al [11] have studied the ternary system SrOÀTiO 2 ÀB 2 O 3 below T = 1300 K and reported only three phases Sr 2 TiO 4 , Sr 3 Ti 2 O 7 , and SrTiO 3 along the binary SrOÀTiO 2 in air. In an earlier study, Ruddlesden and Popper [12,13] have obtained Sr 3 Ti 2 O 7 and Sr 2 TiO 4 by reacting SrCO 3 and TiO 2 in the appropriate ratios at T = 1673 K.…”

“…Borates have attracted much attention because many of these compounds show nonlinear optical properties [16][17][18][19][20][21], high transmittance in the ultraviolet (UV) region [22], and large birefringence [23,24]. Four rare earth (RE), alkaline-earth isostructural compounds REBa 3 B 9 O 18 (REEu, Gd, Tb, Lu) [25] were found to exhibit good luminescence properties under vacuum ultraviolet excitations [26].…”
