Phase Diagrams and Magnetic Behaviour of Films with Amorphous Surfaces

Abstract: The phase diagrams and magnetic behaviour of thin films with two amorphized surfaces are investigated by the use of the effective field theory with correlations. The transition temperature dependence of the exchange integral at surfaces, coupling between surface and nearest-layer, film thickness, and structural fluctuations are studied. Some interesting phenomena can occur as wetting phenomenon and compensation point.

“…In a series of works, Kaneyoshi et al have studied amorphized systems, amongst them semi-inÐnite Ising model with surface amorphization [29,30], a transverse Ising model with a surface amorphization [31], a semi-inÐnite Ising model with a nonrandom surface or surface amorphization [32]. The magnetic properties of a thin Ðlm with two amorphized surfaces [33] and an inÐnite Ising-type amorphized structure [34,35] have also been investigated.…”

“…In this regard, many approaches such as the effective field theory [3], and Monte Carlo simulation [4] have been developed. However, most of the works related with magnetic films have been devoted to the nearest-neighbor (NN) exchange interaction and few works deal with the next-nearest neighbor (NNN) one.…”

“…Recently, the critical behaviours of magnetic films are of great interest.
