As the latest touch-based input equipment of consumer electronics, touch screen is a convenient and natural human-machine interaction vehicle. However, it has not separated from the scope of "interactive input". Tactile display adds the tactile output along with the interactive input and helps the operator to perceive tactile feedback of texture, profile, etc., which increases the immersion of the operator significantly. In this study, a friction-varying texture tactile display which is composed of resonance module, positioning module and vision display module was designed by using the squeeze film effect. In this device, a piece of 194×100×2 mm transparent glass was used as the touch tablet, which can provide a large working area and is easy to be integrated with common consumer electronics. The feasibility and precision of the designed friction-varying tactile display in simulation of texture were further verified by a psychophysical experiment.

In this paper, a high-performance water-coupled ultrasonic ranging technique is presented. We improved the conventional time-of-flight (ToF) ranging technique based on digital correlation of pseudo random noise (PRN) waveforms by introducing signal carrier phase shift detection with an I/Q coherent reception method. In this way, the spatial resolution is dominated mainly by the digitization resolution of the analog to digital converter (ADC) used in the receiver circuit. Submicrometer resolution is achieved in the entire full-scale-range (FSR) while keeping the ADC sampling rate at the Nyquist sampling limit at the carrier ranging signal frequency. In this study, we use quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) waveforms of a set of 1023-bit GPS Gold codes with 8 MHz carrier as a ranging signal. Experiments carried out in a water vessel reveal micrometer level accuracy and precision for quasi-static and dynamic cases. It is experimentally illustrated that the proposed method is capable of multiplexing. The optimal ranging performance is approached by selecting an appropriate set of systemic technical parameters and ranging signals. This allows to define the figure of merit (FOM) indicating the performance upper bound of such a ranging system.

The goal of this paper is to examine filtration possibilities of ultrasonically measured height of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for the suppression of terrain unevenness. The article presents two basic methods of the filtration, namely moving average method and Kalman filter, and it carries out performance comparison of the two methods with simulated data. The comparison implies that the performance of the two methods depends on character of the observed terrain and also on the accuracy of the initial ultrasound measurements before filtration.
