Phase Angle as a Potential Screening Tool in Adults with Metabolic Diseases in Clinical Practice: A Systematic Review

Abstract: Background: Phase angle (PhA) has been used as mortality prognostic, but there are no studies about its possible use as a screening tool. Therefore, an assessment of the possible utility of PhA in clinical practice is required. The aim of this systematic review was to explore all recent available evidence of PhA, and its possible utility as a screening tool in clinical practice in subjects with chronic metabolic diseases. Materials and Methods: This systematic review was performed and written as stated in the … Show more

“…Furthermore, Praget‐Bracamontes et al. ( 2023 ) reinforced the role of PhA by showing its association with key aspects of MetS, including obesity, hyperuricemia, and vitamin D deficiency. This study emphasizes that low PhA values are correlated with worse outcomes in metabolic diseases.…”

“…The phase angle (PhA), which is one of the body composition indices, may have broad potential in assessing the nutritional status and stage of the disease, as well as in estimating the risk of postoperative complications, disability, and even mortality 1 ) . Furthermore, PhA may be a potential screening tool in clinical practice to evaluate different biomarkers, cardiovascular risk, and nutritional diagnosis in metabolic diseases in adults 2 ) , and reacts to physical training and detraining 3 ) . Therefore, PhA is a feasible evaluation for assessing cellar health and could be a potential marker of inflammation and oxidative stress 4 ) .…”
