“…kissing and oral-genital sex) is often not collected and individuals may not feel comfortable discussing this with healthcare providers outside STI clinics [98]. A few STI clinics have changed their policy to include selective oropharyngeal STI screening in women and heterosexual men [99,100,101 ▪ ,102,103 ▪ ,104]. “…Pharyngeal gonococcal infection and thyroglossal duct cysts share a cryptic clinical feature commonly typified by asymptomatic presentation. 2,[13][14][15][16][17] A noteworthy and unique aspect in the 2 cases arises from the intersection of these 2 conditions in the same individual that allowed for the fortuitous discovery of both diagnoses, as each abnormality in isolation would have likely escaped detection.…”

“…Studies are needed to determine whether and to what extent pharyngeal gonorrhea exists among kissing-only youth. McLaughlin and colleagues 20 reported that pharyngeal gonorrhea is common (~30% prevalence) among heterosexual men and women who have been exposed to NG and suggested that studies are needed of the prevalence of pharyngeal gonorrhea among heterosexual men and women more generally, not just among those exposed to NG.…”
