Pharmacological Treatments for GH-Induced Insulin Resistance

Abstract: Abstract. Troglitazone (T) and d-chiroinositol (DCI) have been reported to improve insulin resistance associated with obesity and NIDDM. We tested whether these compounds counteract the insulin antagonistic effects of recombinant human GH. Male Wistar rats were allocated to 4 different treatment groups, rhGH (n=8), rhGH+T (n=7), rhGH+DCI (n=8) and control (saline, n=8). rhGH (2 IU/100 g/day) was injected sc twice daily for 2 days. T and DCI were given (20 mg/day) po for 5 days preceding and 2 days along with r… Show more

“…[117] Male Wistar rats suffering from insulin resistance induced by recombinant human growth hormone were treated with d-chiro-inositol, which offset the peripheral insulin resistance but not the hepatic insulin resistance. [118] Glucosamine induces peripheral and hepatic insulin resistance in rats, but pretreatment with d-chiro-inositol prevented the induced peripheral insulin resistance. [119] In mice suffering from streptozotocin-induced diabetes, chronic treatment with d-chiro-inositol prevents autonomic and somatic neuropathy.…”

“…Regio-random poly(3-hexylthiophene), P3HexTh(Fe), [15]. Regio-regular head-to-tail type poly(3-hexylthiophene), HT-P3HexTh(Zn/Ni), which was prepared via organometallic polycondensation using a zinc compound and nickel complex [16], was purchased from Rieke Metals Inc. P3HexTh(Fe) and HT-P3HexTh(Zn/Ni) were fractionated into several parts with different M n (number average molecular weight) and M w (weight average molecular weight) values, according to solubility of the polymers in chloroform (solubility ¼ high), methylene chloride (solubility ¼ medium), THF (solubility ¼ medium), hexane (solubility ¼ low), and methanol (solubility ¼ poor) [17], in manners similar to that previously applied [18].…”
