Abstract:Acute biliary pancreatitis, caused by macroscopic cholesterol gallstones or microlithiasis, is often a severe disease with considerable morbidity and mortality. Formation of cholesterol gallstones and microlithiasis is caused by cholesterol crystallization from cholesterol supersaturated gallbladder bile.
