“…The anxiolytic effects of Po.Cr might be due to the presence of flavonoids, phenols, and terpenoids in Po.Cr extract. It has been indicated in a previous report that flavonoids and phenols found in natural medicinal plants are known to augment GABA A receptor neurotransmission in the brain and have additional antioxidant properties (Singh et al, 2012;Komaki et al, 2016;Muhasaparur Ganesan et al, 2021). Likewise, the Po.Cr treatment of diabetic rats attenuated depression-like symptoms, resulting in increased mobility in FST compared to untreated diabetic rats.…”

“…The inclusion of behavioral experiments in the present study also revealed the presence of anxiety-like behavior in diabetic rats, as they remained in hidden and dark zones for a longer duration, but treatment with Aa.Cr provided protection against these psychological disorders. The flavonoids and polyphenols present in naturally occurring medicinal plants are reported to ameliorate anxiety-like behavior by modulating the expression of GABAergic transmission in the brain ( Komaki et al, 2016 , Muhasaparur Ganesan et al, 2021 ). Similarly, the rats treated with Aa.Cr showed dose-dependent protection from depression-like behavior, as they were more mobile in the forced swim test as compared to diabetic rats.…”

“…Plasma bioavailability and PK of withaferin A and withanolide A were recorded after intragastric administration of a WS root aqueous extract in mice [ 146 ]. Plasma bioavailability of withaferin A was also shown in rats after oral administration of a polyherbal formulation containing WS root [ 147 ]. Plasma PK of withanolide A was established in rats following oral administration of the compound, which also showed wide tissue distribution; notably, brain levels were considerably lower than in lung, kidney, liver, heart, and spleen [ 148 ].…”
