Pharmacokinetics and residues in milk of oxytetra‐cyclines administered parenterally to dairy goats

Abstract: Plasma concentration-time values of OTC administered parenterally in production dairy goats showed similar bioavailability for the two pharmaceutical preaprations. The presence of detectable residues in milk indicates that milk should not be used for human consumption for 2 and 3 days after administration of conventional and long-acting formulations, respectively. The increments in CK and LDH activities after the IM administration of LA are consistent with the presence of tissue damage provoked by the pharmace… Show more

“…There are no accessible data on 119 the bioavailability of OTC from the GIT of broiler chickens, although there are reports on 120 similar investigations in other animals(Dyer, 1989; Nielsen and Gyrd-Hansen, 1996) 121 suggesting that the absorption of OTC from the GIT is limited and does not exceed 50%, in 122 partial agreement with our results. 123124The most recent research has demonstrated that OTC given parenterally is very well 125 absorbed, and this has been verified in other experiments(Rule et al, 2001). Moreover, our 126 results indicate that OTC given SC and IM is absorbed to a similar extent.…”

“…The existence of measurable OTC residues in milk was detected two days after i/m administration. A parallel finding was reported by RULE et al (2001) in healthy Murciano-Granadina goats.…”

“…Indeed, the average AUC last value of the 20 mg/kg treatment group was 662.17 ± 145.97 h·μg/mL, while a value of 800.29 ± 70.08 h·μg/mL was found in the 30 mg/kg treatment group. The t max value obtained in this study was quite longer than those reported in calves (8.0 h; Kumar & Malik, ), pigs (1.7–2.7 h; el Korchi et al ., ), and goats (2–4 h; Rule et al ., ) undergoing i.m. OTC‐LA treatment.…”
