Abstract

Aquaculture is one of the fastest-growing food-producing sector that contributes nearly 40.1 per cent of the world's food fish. In India, 70%-75% of total aquaculture production is contributed by three Indian major carps (IMC) namely catla (Catla catla), rohu (Labeo rohita) and mrigal (Cirrhinus mrigala) (Jayasankar, 2018). Among IMC, Labeo rohita is the most demandable and extensively cultured species in Indian subcontinents (Khan, Jafri & Chadha, 2004). Intensification of aquaculture with enhancing productivity and production is the recent trend for fulfilling the future demand of fish.
