In this work, we explore the current knowledge about the phytochemistry and in vitro and in vivo evaluations of the extracts and, where appropriate, the main active components characterized and isolated from the Allamanda cathartica. Of the 15 Allamanda species, most phytochemical, pharmacological, and toxicological studies have focused on A. cathartica. These plants are used for the treatment of various health disorders. Numerous phytochemical investigations of plants from the A. cathartica have shown the presence of hydrocarbons, alcohols, esters, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, fatty acids, phospholipids, volatile compounds, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, terpenes, lactones, and carbohydrates. Various studies have confirmed that extracts and active substances isolated from the A. cathartica have multiple pharmacological activities. The species A. cathartica has emerged as a source of traditional medicine used for human health. Further studies on the phytochemical, pharmacological, and toxicological properties and their mechanisms of action, safety, and efficacy in the species of A. cathartica is recommended.

Bala is an important Ayurvedic drug entering into several ayurvedic medical formulations. Triumfetta rhomboidea Jacq. belonging to the family Tiliaceae, also known as Jhinjharita possesses various properties of the drug Bala. This work involves the pharmacognostical characters, phytochemical analysis and HPTLC profiling of the roots extract of T. rhomboidea. The pharamcognostical study comprises of taxonomical characters of taxa, macro and microscopical characters root, histochemical tests and diagnostic characters. The phytochemical analysis consists of determination of physicochemical constants, preliminary organic analysis and HPTLC profile. Phytochemical studies revealed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, phytosterols, tannins, saponins etc.

Sonchus asper also locally known as prickly sow-thistle, rough milk thistle, spiny sowthistle, spiny-leaved sow thistleordudhi, is a widespread plant an annual or biennial herb sometimes reaching a height of 200 cm. with spiny leaves and yellow flowers resembling those of the dandelion. Traditionally it has been used in the treatment of numerous disorders and many resembling plants of the genus Sonchas create confusion hence its standardization is necessary. In the present work we have tried to standardize the entire herb based on physical, chemical, microscopical, and Physico-chemical investigations to provide the proximate values for its proper identification. The present work will help the traditional healers for selecting the correct herb for treating different disorders and avoid the wrong choice of crude drugs which may lead to unsatisfactory results for intended use or it may cause discomfort for many patients. Further work is going on for the biological evaluation of this herb to provide scientific validation of its traditional claims.
