“…The presence of different cell contents can also aid in the delimiting the species as seen in the current study tannin cells were present only in C. auriculata; stone cells were seen in C. spinosa only; rosette crystals were documented only in A. salviifloium whereas prismatic crystals were seen only in C. auriculata and C. spinosa. The presence of stratified phellem, rhytidome, calcium oxalate crystals and uni to triseriate medullary rays in the root bark of A. salviifolium is in accordance to the previous study 33 . The detailed macro-microscopic examinations of the three important root bark drugs were carried out, of which C. auriculata and C. spinosa is the first-hand report.…”

“…Intra-peritonial administration of the non-polar extracts of A. salvifolium flower at a dose of 10 mg/Kg, mimicked the anti-cancer activity of bleomycine in EAC bearing mice 18 . Biologically active ingredients of A. salvifolium include flavinoids, glycosides, alkaloids and saponins 19,20 . Nine protoberberine alkaloids have been isolated from A. salviifolium, among which, 27-O-trans-caffeoylcylicodiscic acid (3) and myriceric acid B (4) exhibited cytotoxic activity towards the MOLT-3 cell line, while 3-O-demethyl-2-O-methylalangiside (5) selectively inhibited the growth of the HepG2 cancer cell line 21 .…”
