Pharmacognostic and Physico-chemical Investigation of Barleria cristata Linn. (Leaf) for Quality Control Assessment

Abstract: Background: Barleria cristata Linn. belongs to the family Acanthaceae and is commonly known as Raktajhinti and VajraDanti. It is widely distributed in countries, such as India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Asian tropical regions. This plant has been observed to bear multifarious ethnomedical uses in treating lung disorders, inflammatory conditions, toothache, anemia, and snakebite. A wide range of major chemical constituents, such as triterpenes, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and glycosides are reported … Show more

“…The microtiter plates were incubated at 37°C with a humidified environment that contained 5% CO 2 after cell inoculation. After 24 h of incubation, Adriamycin (ADR) as positive control and various concentrations (10,20, 40 and 80μg/mL) of test samples (PBPE, PBCE, PBEE, and PBAE) were taken. Then, the absorbance was recorded at test wavelength of (540 nm) on a MicroPlate reader.…”

“…Due to the presence of various important secondary metabolites, the medicinal plants need to be explored on an advanced basis which may act as a potential remedy for different diseases globally, mainly in developed countries, but lack of standard quality control measures is one of the major problems in herbal drug acceptability. WHO has been focusing on phytochemical and physicochemical evaluation of crude drugs to develop the quality control profile with standard methods for herbal medicine (Joshi et al, 2021).…”
