“…They should be advised to contact the treating physician if they observe any type of skin rashes or mucosal ulcers as they require urgent medical evaluation to determine the nature of rashes/ulcers and implementation of most appropriate treatment options which might include discontinuation of these medications and instituting other therapeutic strategies to treat serious rashes and prevent destabilization of BD. Further, prior to commencing carbamazepine, patients with ancestry in genetically at‐risk populations such as Han Chinese and other Asian patients should have genotyping performed to ensure that they do not have the human leucocyte antigen (HLA)‐B*1502 allele, which confers a high risk for SJS/TEN with carbamazepine 800. In addition, those on carbamazepine therapy should have serum sodium levels measured at least annually and as clinically indicated given the risk of hyponatraemia with this compound.…”

“…Concerning genetic screening, in the case of HLA-B*15:02, a retrospective study performed in Thailand concluded that screening for this allele is less costly than treating carbamazepine-induced SJS cases [77]. However, according to the US Food and Drug Administration, screening for HLA-B*15:02 is only recommended for patients of Asian ancestry, since this allele is mainly expressed in those individuals [62].…”

“…Cette association n'a pas été retrouvée en Corée, au Japon et chez les caucasiens 7,14,18 . 7,19 . Dans le cas où le dépistage de l'allèle est utilisé comme marqueur pour prévenir un SSJ/NET induit par la CBZ, la valeur prédictive négative et la sensibilité du test sont respectivement estimées à 98 % et à 92 % 7,19 .…”
