pH‐sensitive polymeric particles as smart carriers for rebar inhibitors delivery in alkaline condition

Abstract: The waste problem of the rebar inhibitors is very serious due to that it is a long time before they can exert their best effect in the concrete and they are kept losing all the time. However, there is still no effective solution to alleviate such situation. Meanwhile, drug delivery control technology based on environmental sensitive polymers has been successfully applied in biomedical fields. Thus, poly(acrylic acid)–acrylamide was synthesized as smart carrier for controlling rebar inhibitors delivery in concr… Show more

“…Secondly, Peaks in IR spectrum of acrylic acid appearing at 1634.74 and 1705.45 cm −1 represented Carbon=Carbon and C-O vibrations. These results are verified through literature in a study conducted by Feng et al [28] who prepared pH-sensitive particles based on polymeric systems for controlled delivery of rebar inhibitor. They observed FTIR peaks of acrylic acid appearing at 1626 and 1707 cm −1 .…”

“…Regions characteristic to the absorption bands corresponding to the vibrations of carbonyl, epoxy, as well as hydroxyl groups were found to be particularly interesting to observe the progress of the transesterification reaction course ( Figure 2 b). Absorption bands specific for and C-O-C stretching vibrations of epoxy groups in aliphatic-type di- and triglicydyl ether occur at ~837 cm −1 [ 33 ], carbonyl stretching mode in AA appears at a wavelength of 1695 cm −1 [ 34 , 35 ], whilst additional absorption peak corresponding to stretching vibrations of –O–H groups’ resulting from the epoxide ring-opening develops at 3600–3200 cm −1 [ 33 , 36 , 37 ]. Close inspection of TMETGE-AA prepolymers’ spectra in the ranges described above unambiguously confirms that transesterification reactions took place under applied conditions.…”

“…This board peaks assigned to the original COOH group, C H in methylene group is changed to relative longer wavenumber because of hydrogen bonding interaction after the polymerization process. [46] Above-cited results evidence that polymer hydrogels 1-6 has been synthesized successfully.…”
