“…To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study in which MSN-based Nic delivery has been reported. The amount of Nic loaded inside COOH-Chi-MSNs was 8.1 ± 1.3%, which is comparatively higher than the Nic loaded in polymeric micelles (∼1%) reported by Andrade et al and lower than the Nic loaded in polydopamine NPs (∼30%) reported by Mhatre et al 13,34 Moreover, Dox loaded in COOH-Chi-MSNs was 16.1 ± 0.6%, which is significantly higher than Dox loaded in chitosan-coated MSNs (1.39%) reported by Khatami et al and lower than Dox loaded in MSNs (∼61%) reported by Kajani et al 35,36 Furthermore, as evident by the imaging and flow cytometer-based uptake analysis, COOH-Chi-FMSNs were being internalized in all three breast cancer cell types in significant amounts. It is expected that NP-based delivery of drugs at the tumor site will minimize side effects and the requirement of repeated doses of free drugs.…”

“…To date, very few NP-based Nic formulations have been developed, which include polymeric, lipid, and carbon NPs. 8,12,13 However, a mesoporous silica NPs (MSNs)-based pH-responsive Nic formulation has not been explored in spite of the known advantages of MSNs. As nanocarriers, MSNs offer several advantages such as large surface area, pore volume, easy and extensive surface modification, the ability to obtain controlled drug release kinetics, and biocompatibility.…”

“…PDA NP has been utilized in biomedical engineering, semiconductor physics, material science, and chemistry 15 . PDA NP is mainly employed in biomedical engineering in cancer therapeutics, bacterial and fungal infections, neuronal diseases, sensing, and imaging 16–18 . The PDA NP alone will not serve as a therapeutic agent; it must conjugate with drugs, photosensitizers, metals, or metallic nanoparticles 13,18,19 .…”

“…Among the various FDA-approved drug candidates, the anthelminthic drug Niclosamide [12] (NIC; 5-Chloro-N-(2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl)-2-hydroxybenzamide) has been found to possess superior in vitro anti-viral effects [13], throwing light on the fact that it could be potentially useful for treating COVID-19. NIC could act through two major pharmacological pathways.…”
