pH and Redox Dual-Responsive MSN-S-S-CS as a Drug Delivery System in Cancer Therapy

Abstract: In order to achieve a controlled release drug delivery system (DDS) for cancer therapy, a pH and redox dual-responsive mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN)-sulfur (S)-S- chitosan (CS) DDS was prepared via an amide reaction of dithiodipropionic acid with amino groups on the surface of MSN and amino groups on the surface of CS. Using salicylic acid (SA) as a model drug, SA@MSN-S-S-CS was prepared by an impregnation method. Subsequently, the stability, swelling properties and drug release properties of the DDS w… Show more

“…Unlike in the 4-th generation leptons which directly mix with SM leptons, the VL electroweak fermions can be either produced via the decays of charginos and neutralinos, or they imitate the electroweak productions of charginos and neutralinos. The prospect of the later class at the high luminosity-LHC will be explored elsewhere [57].…”

“…Prior to administration, complete characterization of MSNs is critical to approximating MSN behavior and correlating the theragnostic effect. Some of the common methods for verifying MSN properties by analyzing synthesized particles are dynamic light scattering (DLS) [ 23 ] and transmission electron microscopy (TEM); and by analyzing the specific surface area calculations through the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) methods [ 24 ]. Understanding how the tunable traits of MSNs influence potential theragnostic action is critical to optimizing clinical efficacy.…”

“…By using a disulfide bond to link the MSNs and chitosan, a redox responsive system was created. With a high concentration of GSH, the disulfide bond was broken, which lead to chitosan gate opening and release of the drug [ 202 , 203 , 204 ]. Besides simultaneous use of pH and redox stimulus, there have been reports on pH and ROS stimulus being used.…”
