Petrophysical analysis of a clastic reservoir rock: a case study of the Early Cambrian Khewra Sandstone, Potwar Basin, Pakistan

Abstract: The Khewra Sandstone is widely distributed throughout the Potwar Basin of Pakistan. Its reservoir aspects are evaluated by the interpretation of well log data recorded from Kal-01 and Kal-02 wells in the Kal Oil Field, eastern Potwar Basin. The encountered thickness of the Khewra Sandstone in Kal-01and Kal-02 varies from 60 m to 120 m. On the basis of lithological interpretation from wireline logs the formation is divided into four facies: 1) shale interbedded with minor siltstone and sandstone, 2) sandstone w… Show more

“…In particular, MS has the transitional characteristics of source rocks and reservoirs because of its certain OM content. 60 The TOC content of sample 7 was 2.53%, which was much smaller than that of the Ch-7 3 Mu&Sh samples. However, it is comparable with the source rocks of typical shale oil intervals in other basins, such as the Shahejie Formation and Qingshankou Formation.…”

“…The same phenomenon also occurs in the study by Li et al (the samples were consistent with those in this study), which was caused by the particularity of MS relative to DM, BS, and FS. In particular, MS has the transitional characteristics of source rocks and reservoirs because of its certain OM content . The TOC content of sample 7 was 2.53%, which was much smaller than that of the Ch-7 3 Mu&Sh samples.…”

“…The use of wireline logs is common in petrophysical analysis and reservoir characterization (Khalid et al, 2015;Chatterjee, 2016;Ghazi et al, 2016;Das, 2017;Khalid et al, 2018). For petrophysical analysis and facies modeling, a complete suite of wireline logs, including self-potential, neutron porosity, bulk density, gamma ray, and deep and shallow resistivity, were run in five wells.…”
