“…Fabric relicts (S 1 ) enclosed within porphyroblasts grown during exhumation (S 2 ) and non-or poorly retrogressed lenses of high-pressure rocks evidence the initial continental subduction. The metamorphic conditions range from blueschist to eclogite facies (Arenas et al 1995;Rubio Pascual et al 2002;Rodríguez et al 2003;Ló pez-Carmona et al 2010). No relicts of a high-pressure fabric have been identified in the uppermost levels of the upper sheet, where the temperature related to the subduction event was probably the lowest among the basal units.…”

“…Staurolite mainly occurs toward the intermediate and lower structural sections and sets the maximum temperature of these levels during deformation to a range of 550Њ-620ЊC (Powell and Holland 1990). The pressure can be indirectly set by using the tectonometamorphic evolution of the upper sheet of the basal units to a minimum value of 7 kbar (Arenas et al 1995;Ló pez-Carmona et al 2010). This value is probably an underestimation because the minimum thickness of the lower sheet has not been taken into account (10-12 km; Díez Ferná ndez et al 2011).…”

“…The use of isochemical sections to evaluate the stability of mineral assemblages and evolution from one assemblage to another has become increasingly common (e.g. White et al, 2001;White and Powell, 2002;Johnson et al, 2003aJohnson et al, , 2003bKelsey et al, 2003aKelsey et al, , 2003bZeh and Holness, 2003;Johnson and Brown, 2004;Saha et al, 2008;Nasipuri et al, 2009;Lopez-Carmona et al, 2010). A critical consideration in the calculation of these isochemical sections is the estimation of an appropriate bulk chemical composition, which must take into account the equilibration volume of the mineral assemblage observed in thin section.…”

“…Recent petrological and geochronological studies of blueschist fades and assodated rocks have provided important clues in understanding subduction zone metamorphism (e.g. Isozaki et al, 2010;L6pez-Carmona et al, 2010), thermotectonic evolution (e.g., Z. Zhang et al, 2009) and the styles of exhumation, such as the in the case of the world's youngest blueschist from Leti Island in eastern Indonesia (Kadarusman et al, 2010).…”
