Petroleum system evaluation by basin modeling.

Abstract: The petroleum system is defined by Magoon and Dow (1994) as a natural system which includes all geological and geochemical elements and processes essential to oil and gas accumulation. The concept itself is not new, but they reviewed and introduced a simple method to evaluate the petroleum systems. Basin modeling is one of computer simulation techniques which model generation, migration and accumulation of oil and gas in a sedimentary basin. In this paper, the emphasis is focused on that multi-dimensional basi… Show more

“…In this study, SIGMA software developed by JNOC (now JOGMEC) was used for 2D-basin modeling (Okui, 1997;1998) . The modelled line is a regional NW-SE line passing through the field in the studied area (Fig.…”

“…Most of rift basins in Southeast Asia were formed in Cenozoic related with the India-Eurasia collision followed by easterly movement of Indochina and expansion of South China Sea (Patriat and Achache, 1984) . The Cenozoic rift basins in Southeast Asia are known to have high petroleum potential and the petroleum system of each basin has been analyzed and characterized (Okui, 2005;Okui et al, 1997;1998;Shimada and Aoyama, 2005) . Many studies revealed the presence of two types of source rocks in the petroleum basins in Southeast Asia.…”

“…Papers (Paweł and Magdalena 2012;Van Keer et al 1997;Senglaub et al 2006;Narkiewicz et al 2010) adopted the burial history results simulated by PetroMod software, designed in Germany, as the foundation of further researches. The SIGMA-2D basin modeling system (version 6) of the Japanese Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC), which described in detail by paper (Okui 1998), was used in paper (Premarathne et al 2016), to simulate a basin's burial and thermal history along a 2D cross-section. In addition, in paper (Galushkin et al 2014), The GALO computer program was used to model the thermal and burial histories of the Murzuq and Ghadames Basin, Libya.…”
