“…Sequence NA 1 is bounded below by SB 1, which separates Precambrian basement as well as the locally occuring "Infracambrian" Mourzidie Formation below, from Cambrian sediments above. The Mourzidie Formation has been reported in the Kufra Basin (Lüning et al, 2000a), Murzuq Basin (Bellini and Massa, 1980;Aziz, 2000) and Ghadames Basin (Bellini and Massa, 1981). Equivalents are found in Algeria (Whiteman, 1971) and Morocco (Destombes et al, 1985).…”

“…4C, D) is a well-established marker for the lower Silurian (Seilacher 1996) and occurs abundantly in several horizons of the Akakus sandstones in all three areas studied in the Kufra Basin. The scarcity of other biostratigraphic information makes a correct identi cation of this trilobite trace the basis of sound regional stratigraphic interpretations in the area (Lüning et al 2000c). Notably only Cruziana acacensis plana is represented in Jebel Eghei, while the more complex other subspecies known from the Murzuq Basin (Seilacher 1996) are absent.…”
