The Longshoushan Metallogenic Belt (northwestern China) is known for its word-class Jinchuan Ni-Cu sulfide (Pt) deposit and is also an important uranium metallogenic belt. The Jiling uranium deposit in this belt is a typical Na-metasomatic uranium deposit, which rarely occurs in China. Mineralization in the Jiling uranium deposit is hosted in granitoids that have suffered a Na-metasomatic alteration. There are three kinds of uranium minerals, including uraninite, pitchblende, and coffinite in the Jiling uranium deposit. Pitchblende is the predominant uranium mineral. Integrating the mineralogy and geochemistry of uranium minerals, and in situ electron microprobe analyzer (EMPA) U-Th-Pb chemical dating, we aimed to unravel the age and nature of the mineralization, to decipher the characteristics of the hydrothermal alteration and the U mineralization process. Based on the microtextural features and compositional variations, primary uraninite was altered to uraninite A and B, and fresh pitchblende was altered to pitchblende A and B. The best-preserved uraninite crystals displayed a euhedral-shape with high Pb and low SiO2, CaO, FeO, and Al2O3 contents, and was interpreted as primary uraninite. The EMPA U-Th-Pb chemical ages revealed that uraninite may have formed at 435.9 ± 3.3 Ma. High ThO2 + ΣREE2O3 + Y2O3 contents illustrated that the best preserved uraninite crystallized at a high temperature. Altered pitchblende A showed a relatively brighter gray color in backscattered electron (BSE) images and with a lower SiO2 content than B. Three analysis spots of the fresh pitchblende showed low contents of ΣSiO2 + CaO, indicating no obvious alteration. EMPA U-Th-Pb chemical dating gave a mean chemical age of 361 Ma. The low Th + ΣREE2O3 contents indicated that this pitchblende formed at a relatively low temperature. According to the different characteristics of occurrence and chemical composition, the coffinite in the Jiling uranium deposit can be divided into coffinite A and B, respectively. The compositional variation of the fresh and altered uraninite and pitchblende indicated that both uraninite and pitchblende underwent at least two discrete hydrothermal fluid alterations. The U mineralization was divided into two stages; uraninite was formed at a high temperature and possibly from a magmatic-hydrothermal fluid during ore stage I. Then, pitchblende was formed at a low temperature, during ore stage II. According to the petrographic observations and their chemical compositions, coffinite A and B resulted from the alterations of uraninite and pitchblende, respectively.

The mafic igneous activities in the late Triassic play an important role in the tectonic evolution of the South China Block (SCB). In this paper, relevant data of the bojites in Yajiangqiao area, eastern Hunan Province, South China were provided, including zircon U-Pb ages, whole-rock geochemical data, Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic data, and zircon Hf isotope data. These data indicate that the bojites were crystallized at 215.7 Ma, and thus are coeval with biotite monzonitic granites of Yajiangqiao pluton. The bojite samples feature a low SiO 2 content of 48.84-49.94 wt%, a low ALK (K 2 O + Na 2 O) content of 5.13-6.13 wt%, a relatively high Al 2 O 3 content of 17.64-21.22 wt%, a moderate MgO content of 4.32-7.07 wt%, and a moderate FeO T content of 5.66-7.33 wt%. In addition, the samples have a total rare earth element (REE) content of 108-163 ppm. They display right-declined REE patterns, enriched in light rare earth elements and large-ion lithophile elements (such as Rb, K, Th, and U) and depleted in high field strength elements (such as Nb, Ta, P, and Ti). All the samples have homogeneous Sr-Nd-Pb and zircon Hf isotopic compositions, with the (87 Sr/ 86 Sr) i ratio varying from 0.708 202 to 0.709 515, (143 Nd/ 144 Nd) i ratio from 0.512 156 to 0.512 229, (206 Pb/ 204 Pb) t ratio from 18.185 to 18.264, (207 Pb/ 204 Pb) t ratio from 15.667 to 15.672, (208 Pb/ 204 Pb) t ratio from 38.510 to 38.587, and initial 176 Hf/ 177 Hf ratio ranging from 0.282 428 to 0.282 530. Meanwhile, the calculated ε Nd (t) and ε Hf (t) values range from −4.0 to −2.6 and from −7.9 to −4.1, respectively, with two-stage Nd model ages of 1.20-1.32 Ga and two-stage Hf model ages of 1.35-1.56 Ga, respectively. As indicated by geochemical data, the primitive magmas of the bojites in Yajiangqiao area were derived from lithospheric mantle in postcollisional extensional environment, which underwent low-degree partial melting (1-5 %) of spinel-garnet lherzolites (spinel > garnet) and was subjected to metasomatism of slab-derived fluids. Furthermore, it can be concluded from these data and previous data that the SCB was transformed from syn-collisional compression to postcollisional extension in the late Triassic (234 Ma) and the post-collisional extension lasted until 215 Ma.

Low-temperature thermochronology data from the eastern South China Block decipher episodic subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate

Mesozoic subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate triggered intense tectonism, magmatism, and metallogeny in the eastern South China Block (E-SCB) and set off long-term tectonic, topographic, and climatic responses. However, contrasting hypotheses have been proposed to interpret the timing, style, and evolution of this oceanic subduction. Unraveling the exhumation history of the E-SCB is crucial to understanding deep subduction processes. To address the poorly documented exhumation history of the E-SCB, we present first zircon and apatite (U-Th)/He dates from eight Mesozoic granitoids distributed in a lateral profile across the intracontinental E-SCB. These data are combined with a compilation of regional thermochronological data, in order to address the evolution of the E-SCB in a tectonic, topographic, and climatic evolution framework. Zircon and apatite (U-Th)/He central ages of the investigated plutons range from 146-30 Ma and 82-31 Ma, respectively, implying long-lived exhumation of the intracontinental E-SCB. Inverse thermal modelling indicates the intracontinental SCB underwent multi-phase exhumation events from the Jurassic, despite variable onset timing and the fact that the far intracontinental E-SCB had been an exhumation center prior to the Early Cretaceous. In addition, a compilation map of regional thermochronological data reveals propagation of the exhumation center from the intracontinental to the epicontinental E-SCB over time (from the Cretaceous to the Paleogene). Based on these results, we propose a refined model of Paleo-Pacific Plate subduction since the Triassic.
