Petri Net Based Data-Flow Error Detection and Correction Strategy for Business Processes

Abstract: Conceptual modeling, which includes both control-flow and data-flow modeling, has posed great challenges for conventional business process management systems. To support systematic data-flow modeling and analysis, in this paper, we propose a novel and effective Petri net-based approach. We first introduce a new type of Petri net, called WFIO-net, the firing rule of which is formally defined by extending classical Petri net with read and write semantics, to model both the control-flow and data-flow information.… Show more

“…Considering for example the data perspective, given two organizations that synchronize initially but have the (optional) second synchronization this can be sound iff both organizations are aware of when the second synchronization is required. This requires an understanding of data-aware workflow [20] and [21] where data elements imply the condition used.…”

“…(2) Checking reachability, properly completed, and deadlocks Some errors can be detected based on the unfolding techniques. In this paper, we refer to some previous studies [5,34,37,41,42], and utilize our improvements to efficiently check reachability [15,30], properly completed [43,44] and deadlocks [45,46].…”

“…Tao and Fang [11] opt for workflow nets with tables (WFT-nets) to model workflow systems and detect inconsistent data. Liu et al [12] have proposed a Petri net-based approach to model and analyze data flows. Ramon-Cortes et al [6] build a Distributed Stream Library supporting the integration of workflow and data flow to meet the needs of new Data Science workflows.…”
