PET/CT appearance of desmoid tumour of the chest wall

Abstract: Desmoid tumours are rare, poorly circumscribed tumours that have a firm consistency and, although benign, have a remarkable tendency to infiltrate into surrounding structures. Extra-abdominal desmoid tumours involve mainly the extremities or the chest wall and are usually managed by wide radical resection. Moreover, desmoid tumours involving the chest wall are locally aggressive tumours with a high recurrence rate. We report a case of a pathologically proven desmoid tumour of the chest wall in a patient with a… Show more

For the patient with a history of breast cancer and operation, it is very confusing to provide a differential diagnosis other than recurrent breast cancer such as postoperative change or soft tissue tumor of the chest wall.…”

“…Souza, et al reported a chest wall desmoid tumor (9 cm in diameter) that also had a mild SUV max of 1.7. 18) Conversely, Kasper, et al performed FDG-PET analysis of 16 patients with desmoid tumors, for whom the median SUV max was 4.1 (range: 1.0-8.1). 19) Although FDG-PET was useful for discriminating benign tumors from lung cancer recurrence, further emanation of PET for desmoid-type fibromatosis is needed.…”
