Background: Early blight (EB), caused by Alternaria solani, is one of the alarming diseases that restrict tomato production globally. Existing cultural practices and fungicide applications are not enough to control the early blight diseases. Therefore, the study aimed to isolate, identify, and characterize an endophytic Streptomyces strain exhibiting the potential to control early blight in tomato and also promote plant growth. Results: From a Citrus jambhiri leaf, an endophytic Streptomyces sp. SP5 isolated with antagonistic activity against Alternaria solani, Colletotrichum acutatum, Cladosporium herbarum, Alternaria brassicicola, Alternaria alternata, Fusarium oxysporum and Fusarium moniliforme. It was identified as a Streptomyces sp. designated as SP5 through 16S ribosomal DNA sequence analysis. It also produced 40μg/ml indole acetic acid which was further confirmed by TLC and HPLC analyses. Treatment of pathogen infected plants with Streptomyces sp. SP5 antagonist (culture cells/culture supernatant/solvent extract/ acetone precipitates) decreased the early blight disease incidence and significantly increased the various agronomic traits Conclusion: The present study concluded that Streptomyces sp. SP5 possessed antifungal activity against different fungal pathogens and had significant potential to control early blight disease in tomatoes and also promote plant growth by producing IAA.

Background: Pesticide residues are a threat to the health of the global population, not only to farmers, applicators, and other pesticide professionals. Humans are exposed through various routes such as food, skin, and inhalation. This study summarizes the different methods to assess and/or estimate human exposure to pesticide residues of the global population. Methods: A systematic search was carried out on Scopus and web of science databases of studies on human exposure to pesticide residues since 2019. Results: The methods to estimate human health risk can be categorized as direct (determining the exposure through specific biomarkers in human matrices) or indirect (determining the levels in the environment and food and estimating the occurrence). The role that analytical techniques play was analyzed. In both cases, the application of generic solvent extraction and solid-phase extraction (SPE) clean-up, followed by liquid or gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, is decisive. Advances within the analytical techniques have played an unquestionable role. Conclusions: All these studies have contributed to an important advance in the knowledge of analytical techniques for the detection of pesticide levels and the subsequent assessment of nonoccupational human exposure.

The changing climatic conditions have led to the concurrent emergence of virulent microbial pathogens that attack crop plants and exhibit yield and quality deterring impacts on the affected crop. To counteract, the widespread infections of fungal pathogens and post-harvest diseases it is highly warranted to develop sustainable techniques and tools bypassing traditional agriculture practices. Nanotechnology offers a solution to the problems in disease management in a simple lucid way. These technologies are revolutionizing the scientific/industrial sectors. Likewise, in agriculture, the nano-based tools are of great promise particularly for the development of potent formulations ensuring proper delivery of agrochemicals, nutrients, pesticides/insecticides, and even growth regulators for enhanced use efficiency. The development of novel nanocomposites for improved management of fungal diseases can mitigate the emergence of resilient and persistent fungal pathogens and the loss of crop produce due to diseases they cause. Therefore, in this review, we collectively manifest the role of nanocomposites for the management of fungal diseases.
