Pesticides and herbicides

Abstract: This paper provides a review of some important scientific articles published in the year 2018 about pesticides and herbicides. The literature review presented in this paper cover pesticides and herbicides presence as well as occurrence in the environment. The review is divided into four sections. Each of these sections highlight issues related to pesticides and herbicides on toxicology, ecology, risk assessment, modeling, and treatment strategies.

“…On the other hand, pesticides include a broad range of compounds routinely applied to protect crops from different pests. However, residues coming from these products can accumulate in plants intended for human consumption, leading to several health issues related to neurotoxicity, carcinogenicity and pulmonotoxicity, as well as developmental and reproductive disorders [15][16][17][18].…”

“…This may be due to the fractionation of C and H isotopes, which was mainly caused by the breakage of the N-isopropyl side chain and/or the N-ethyl side chain during atrazine photo-oxidation. However, 3 4-CBBP* as an oxidant, is more selective for the reaction of these two side chains, thus can change the values of the isotope enrichment factors. Nevertheless, despite the differences in values, both oxidants result in the enrichment of C and H isotopes, indicating linear enrichment relationships.…”

“…2 The listed chemical categories are included for convenience, and some pesticides may fall into more than one category. 3 Pesticide production and use have increased globally with increased agricultural activity. 4 While pesticide application has addressed some of the problems associated with limited cropland and the food requirements of a growing global population, 5 aer application, pesticide residue and runoff can lead to numerous environmental risks.…”

“…Las diferentes actividades productivas y domésticas producen grandes cantidades de aguas residuales y por ende de lodos. Estas aguas residuales contienen una diversidad amplia de contaminantes y hace que presenten, cada una, alguna característica particular que va a determinar cuál será el tratamiento más adecuado a aplicar (Díaz-Cuenca et al, 2012;Choudri y Charabi, 2019).…”
