“…Therefore, it is important to estimate the diffusion coefficient, D i of penetrating molecules to understand the mechanism of transport. From Fick's law of diffusion, the diffusion flux can be expressed as [48]:…”

“…For such an application, the development of technologies for the preparation of water-insoluble CD films as sensing interfaces without loss of their inherent function of selective molecular recognition for various guest compounds is important, because of the high solubility of CD in water. Several approaches are already known for the preparation of solid films containing CD, which include synthesis of CD polymers by crosslinking the CD inclusion complexes [2], attachment of hydrophobic functional groups to CD [3][4][5][6][7], immobilization of the CD oligomers in a poly(vinylalcohol) (PVA) matrix by crosslinking PVA [8][9][10], electrochemical synthesis of the pyrrole-sulfated-β-CD polymer [11], incorporation of cationic CD derivatives into anionic Nafion films [12,13], and coating of water-soluble CD films with a protecting film [14][15][16]. In these approaches, complicated procedures are generally necessary to prepare the functionalized CD films, which are time-consuming and require a relatively high cost.…”
