“…Several issues are problematic when conducting research involving FPs and interviewees in authentic CFIs. (1) The nature of the interview deals with sensitive information; and (2) The interview may include admission of guilt and other evidence that may be used in legal and court proceedings (McIntyre et al, 2014;Van Graan et al, 2022;Walsh & Bull, 2011); (3) Making video recordings of the interview may breach con dentiality if they are leaked, potentially leading to miscarriages of justice (Walsh & Bull, 2011); and (4) There are also reputational risks and the possibility of civil litigation if con dential information about the rm/business (where the investigation/risk assessment is taking place) is made public (Agwu, 2014). Hence there is a need to explore alternative methods for studying interactions between FPs and interviewees.…”

“…The CFI is a valuable tool in obtaining such information as part of commercial forensic investigations/risk assessments (McIntyre et al, 2014;Vorster, 2016), but the study of interactions between people is complicated because relational dynamics informing the outcomes of such interactions are at play (Van Graan et al, 2023). To this end, it is assumed that FPs are actively involved in coconstructing the relational dynamics during a CFI, and that FPs have a direct impact on the interviewee and their behavior, and vice versa, and consequently on the quality of the information obtained (Phipps, 2004;Van Graan et al, 2022).…”
