Personnel Preparation in Special Education: A Synthesis of Distance Education and On-Campus Instruction

Abstract: An alternative special education certification program incorporating traditional instructional approaches with distance learning was created to address the needs of personnel shortages in rural areas of west Kentucky. Participant selection, instructional methods, and the rationale behind this program are described. Advantages and disadvantages of achieving the goal of providing quality alternative programs in the preparation of special education personnel are discussed.
