Personality traits of aggression-submissiveness and perfectionism associate with ABO blood groups through catecholamine activities

Abstract: Personality trait research has shown associations with many genes, prominently those of the catecholamine metabolism such as dopamine beta hydroxylase (DBH), catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), and monoamine oxidase A (MAOA). Because DBH gene is in linkage disequilibrium with ABO gene, there is reason to think that other catecholamine genes using the same substrate as DBH may also have associations with ABO blood groups, and this paper demonstrates how this may be so. Reasons include similarities in hapmap po… Show more

“…In this study, we investigated possible associations between ABO phenotype and genotype and personality traits based on Hobgood’s hypothesis [ 22 ][ 23 ]. The results of this study showed significant differences in Persistence scores according to both genotype and phenotype.…”

“…However, a scientific hypothesis concerning ABO blood groups and personality traits was recently proposed by Hobgood [ 22 ][ 23 ]. Dopamine beta-hydroxylase (DBH) is known to catalyze the conversion of dopamine to norepinephrine, and the DBH gene is in tight linkage with the ABO gene on chromosome 9q34 [ 24 ][ 25 ].…”

“…B phenotype was correlated with submissiveness, perfectionism, and nonaggressiveness on the basis of the level of catecholamine. With the same reasons, blood type O was correlated with nonsubmissiveness, non-perfectionism, and aggressiveness (Hobgood, 2011).…”

“…Therefore, ABO blood group may affect the human's traits and habits. Hobgood investigated the possible link between blood groups and personality traits (Hobgood., 2011). The author hypothesized that personality traits were correlated with catecholamine genes.…”
