Specificity of Russian Teenager’s Civic Identity (Case of Campers at the Artek International Children’s Centre)

Introduction. Russian psychology is gaining deeper awareness of the problem of defining the content of civic identity and diagnosing its components, the understanding of which is a precondition for its formation in the context of the key objectives of Russian education. The relevance of the research is determined by the public and scientific significance of the problem of civic identity formation, as the level of its formation is the basis for further development and prosperity of Russia. The objective of the article is to present the results of empirical study of the peculiarities of civic identity of modern Russian adolescents. Materials and Methods.The empirical part of the study involved 640 respondents, adolescents aged 15–17. In order to diagnose the degree of formation of adolescentsʼ civic identity and to study its structure, the authorʼs questionnaire “Personal civic identity profileˮ was used. To analyse the level of formation and structure of adolescentsʼ civic identity, a set of methods for mathematical data processing was used. Results. The study showed a satisfactory level of civic identity formation among modern adolescents. At the same time, a certain asynchrony in the formation of the various components of civic identity was observed. The study of the degree of formation of civic identity of an individual determined its high level in the studied sample. The analysis of individual components of the internal position of the individual as a basis for the formation of civic identity indicates that teenagers have the most developed value attitude towards themselves. Adolescents are not yet aware of the value of others while recognising the value of the surrounding reality. The gender of the respondents has no significant impact on the level of formation of civic identity or on the components of person’s inner position. Discussion and Conclusion. The results of the study contribute to the development of ideas about the psychological components of civic identity and their formation in modern Russian adolescents. The material in this article can be used in applied developments in the formation of civic identity, in organizing educational work in schools, and in training and retraining teaching staff who are capable of effectively carrying out educational work aimed at forming a pupil's civic identity.

The article considers the methodological foundations for the formation of universal educational actions as the basis for the creation of metasubject results of general secondary education and it examines the key ideas of cultural-historical and system-activity approaches that are fundamental in achieving the main results of school education. The authors substantiate the importance of implementing these ideas at the level of federal state educational standards in order to systematize, standardize and regulate the activities of teachers in a modern school. The article also reveals the interrelation of the currently existing methodology for the formation of universal educational actions with the ideas of the concept of the V.S. Mukhina's scientific school «Phenomenology of personality development and being». Here’s also substantiated the productivity of considering V.S. Mukhina's scientific ideas on the mental mechanisms of identification-isolation and factors determining the development of the personality, including: 1 – genotypic prerequisites, as methodological foundations for the formation of cognitive, communicative and regulatory universal educational actions; 2 – external conditions (the reality of the objective world, the reality of figurative and symbolic systems, natural reality, the reality of the socio-normative space); 3 – the internal position of the personality. The authors consider the interrelation of personal educational outcomes with universal educational activities as well. They also defend the idea that the prior purpose of education is personal development.

Objective. The aim of the study is to analyze the salience and subjective significance of patriotic self-identity, and analyze the attitude towards patriotism among Russian student youth under conditions of polarization of Russian society. Background. Patriotic education of Russian youth, based on the potential of subject-to-subject interaction and implemented in the current polarization of Russian society, requires analysis of the patriotic self-identity of young people and their attitude towards patriotism. Study design. We carried out reflexive thematic analysis and qualitative content analysis of respondents' answers to open questions about the manifestations, advantages and shortcomings of patriotism. We evaluated the salience and subjective significance of patriotic self-identity among young people. Participants. University students from Moscow, Omsk, Penza, Saratov, Smolensk, Khabarovsk (670 Russians ages 18 to 25, M = 19,3, SD = 1,5, 21% of men) participated in the study. Data were collected in October 2022. Measurements. We used the shortened version of the questionnaire «Who am I?» by M. Kuhn, T. McPartland. We formulated the close-ended question to assess salience of patriotic self-identity, as in the Scale of Rapid Assessment of Ethnic Identity by N.M. Lebedeva, and open-ended questions for the assessment of attitude towards patriotism. Results. The subjective significance of patriotic self-identity for young people is low. One third of respondents are characterized by a fluctuating patriotic self-identity, one tenth of respondents feel very little patriotic, 6,4% of respondents do not feel patriotic at all. We discovered 5 types of attitudes among students towards patriotism. Recommendations were developed to increase the effectiveness of patriotic education of Russian students in the current conditions. Conclusions. There are barriers to the formation of a stable patriotic identity for a large part of the Russian student youth. Almost half of respondents identified a request for the development of constructive civic patriotism. In order to increase the effectiveness of patriotic education of young people in the current Russian context it is important to take into account the results of such research.
