Personal communications services-issues for WARC 92 in Europe

Abstract

This paper considers the European radio spectrum scene in the context of 2nd generation mobile and cordless systems, 3rd Generation mobile systems, Personal Communications Networks (PCNs) and WARC 92.Many European countries are actively supporting the work of CCIR on FPLMTS. The current CCIR spectrum estimates for FPLMTS, were strongly influenced by the work being undertaken within the European RACE -Mobile project (Research into Advanced Communications in Europe.)The CEPT (Conference of European PTTs) seeks to reach common positions on spectrum issues for WARC 92, taking account of both individual administrations and European organisations, such as the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and the Commission of European Communities (CEC). The discussions so far have resulted in a view that supports the allocation of spectrum for FPLMTS as a 3rd generation system.Currently the bands 1900 -2025MHz followed, additionally by 2110 -2200MHz are considered to be the best choice.
