Persistence of routing tables in Wireless Mesh Networks with duty cycling

Abstract: Abstract-Currently, clean energy sources, such as solar and wind power, are more and more used in Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs). Such power sources, however, are intermittent and require these networks to save energy. Duty cycling is a common approach employed by WMNs to save energy by cyclically turning on and off the wireless radios. When the radios are turned off, the node's routing table eventually expires and, when the radios turn back on, it is necessary to wait for routes to be discovered before sending… Show more

“…Communication is divided into Transmission phase, Channel estimation and relay selection phase and Retransmission phase. Authors Alves, R.L et.al., [4] presented Persistence of Routing Tables in Wireless Mesh Networks with Duty Cycling by proposing the mechanism referred as PORT (Persistence of Routing Tables) which keeps track of routing table entries while nodes are in the energy saving mode. Authors Akhtar, A.M et.al., [3] Proposed a cooperative routing algorithm.…”

“…Nodes are installed in a subset of the towers, powered by batteries that are recharged using solar energy. Duty cycling capabilities were implemented allowing sensors and routers to be switched on and off, providing energy savings . Each node provides a number of interfaces for communicating with sensors and actuators, including an IEEE 802.11g wireless card and Ethernet ports.…”
