“…TBT and TPT are known ligands of the RXR-PPAR␥ heterodimer and induce lipogenic PPAR gene expression in liver and adipose tissue (Inadera and Shimomura, 2005). Pavlikova et al (2010) reported up to 2-fold increase of PPAR expression and that of PPAR˛/ˇiso-types in the liver of salmon exposed to rather high concentrations of TBT through the diet (10 mg/Kg). However, PPAR expression in RTL-W1 cells is rather low, and exposure to organotin compounds did not alter the expression of PPAR˛/ˇ, and led to minor alterations in cell lipids in comparison to the other endocrine disrupters tested.…”

“…Interestingly, 1.5 mg/L DCHP increased the expression of both pparγ and cyp19 , suggesting that DCHP affects the amphibian reproductive system differently from rodents. Similarly, increases in pparγ transcription were concurrent with increased cyp19a mRNA levels in tributyltin‐treated salmon . Such disruption of cyp19 could result in increased aromatization, and therefore to an increase in estradiol production.…”

“…In juvenile salmon TBT decreased estrogen receptor-alpha (ERa) and increased estrogen receptor-beta (ERb) and androgen receptor-beta (ARb). TBT modified the expression patterns of ERa, ERb and ARb in salmon hepatocyte (Pavlikova et al, 2010a). Exposure to organotins or organotin compounds-contaminated seafood may lead to reproductive disruption in female reproductive system of mammals.…”
