Peroxidase and laccase activities in mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal fine roots of Norway spruce (Picea abies) and larch (Larix decidua)

Abstract: Peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.7) and laccase (EC 1.10.3.1) activities were determined in mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal main and lateral roots of Picea abies (L.) Karst. (Norway spruce) and Larix decidua Mill, (larch) and in mycelia of the ectomycorrhizal fungus Laccaria amethystea (Bull.) Murr. grown under axenic conditions. Peroxidase isozyme patterns were identified after isoelectric focussing. In both tree species, mycorrhizae contained the lowest, and laterals of noninoculated plants the highest, peroxidase acti… Show more

“…This decrease of peroxidase can be associated with the increase of the number of ECM morphotypes as well as root biomass. These and several other results (Albrecht et al 1994) suggest that the mycorrhizal fungus generally induces peroxidase expression during the initial stage of symbiotic interaction (Günther et al 1998;Salzer et al 1999) and that this response is later either controlled by the plant or circumvented in mature mycorrhiza (Münzenberger et al 1997). Nevertheless, some contradictory results have also been reported.…”

“…Besides acting on the total peroxidase activity, mycorrhyza interaction can also regulate specific isoforms. Changes in root peroxidase profile following mycorrhiza colonisation were observed indicating a specific differential isozyme expression in roots (Münzenberger et al 1997;Timonen and Sen 1998).…”

“…Therefore, the production and/or activity of antioxidants, including enzymes (e.g. superoxide 4 dismutase, catalase and peroxidase; Münzenberger et al, 1997;Baptista et al, 2007) or phenolic compounds, might increase in plant roots and/or mycelia (Münzenberger et al, 1995;Reis et al, 2011).…”

“…'inoculation du Pin d' Alep par F. oxysporum se traduit par une diminution des attaques chez les plants mycorhizes. Ces resultats montrent que Ia mycorhization declenche chez I 'hote un processus de defense qui previent les attaques des organismes infectieux (Buscot eta/., 1992 ;Munzenberger et a/., 1997 ;Asiegbu et a/., 1999). Ainsi, !…”
