Peritonitis After Gastrostomy Tube Replacement

Abstract: Background: The placement of feeding gastrostomy (G) tubes through a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) technique has become common because of its simplicity and safety. The majority of the serious complications are reported to occur within a few days of initial tube placement and happen in fewer than 3% of cases. Long‐term reported complications of this procedure include occlusion or breakage of the G‐tube, requiring reinsertion. This report describes the complication of intraperitoneal placement and t… Show more

“…In most cases, if the complications are detected early and peritonitis does not develop, just reposition of the gastrostomy tube and conservative care is enough treatment in many cases. On the contrary, if the detection is late and peritonitis occurs, operative procedures are needed and bad results can be obtained [2,5]. …”

“…The PEG tract is usually considered to be mature if 1 month has passed since it was built. In addition, there are few reports of intraperitoneal placement of a gastrostomy tube once the tract is mature [7]. Therefore, we selected LAC as the surgical procedure.…”
