Peristaltic Transport of a Couple Stress Fluid: Some Applications to Hemodynamics

Abstract: The paper deals with a theoretical investigation of the peristaltic transport of a couple stress fluid in a porous channel. The study is motivated towards investigating the physiological flow of blood in the micro-circulatory system, by taking account of the particle size effect. The velocity, pressure gradient, stream function and frictional force of blood are investigated, when the Reynolds number is small and the wavelength is large, by using appropriate analytical and numerical methods. Effects of differen… Show more

“…Since, the most alluring work was described by Latham, 1 various authors investigated analytically, numerically and experimentally the mechanism of peristaltic flow in different geometrical aspects. [2][3][4][5] For instance, Hina et al 6 explored the impact of compliant walls on non-Newtonian peristaltic motion of third grade fluid in a curved channel and obtained the series solution for temperature profile and concentration profile. He observed that the magnitude of the bolus in not similar in the upper and the lower part of the channel.…”

“…Recently, peristaltic transport of non Newtonian fluid has been an important topic in the chemical field. A considerable amount the literature has been reported in [22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29]. Srivastava [22] developed the mathematical model for Peristaltic transport of a couple-stress fluid.…”

“…Vidhya et al [25] studied the MHD peristaltic flow of a couple stress fluids permeated with suspended particles through a porous medium under long wavelength approximation. Few authors like Pandey [26], Mishra [27], Alsaedi [28], Sankad [29] (and all the reference therein) have studied the non Newtonian fluid. Few authors [30][31] discussed the heat and mass transfer for non Newtonian fluid.…”
