“…In our study, the overall PH rate was 1.48 per 1000 deliveries, comparable with some studies [2], [26] but higher than others [1], [4], [5], [8], [9], [11], [19]. This may be due to the high cesarean section rate (36.45%) demonstrated in this study, as the rate of cesarean sections is tightly linked to the PH rate [4], [11], [17], [19].…”

“…Although the rate of EPH in the literature varies widely from 0.30 to 2.7 per 1000 deliveries, 3,7 the overall rate of 0.85 per 1000 deliveries in the RHW was comparable to the EPH rate in many developed countries 4,8,9,12,13,15,20 …”

“…Other factors that have been associated with EPH include advanced maternal age, 4,9,13 multiparity, 5,9,13,18 multiple gestations 4,19 and gestational diabetes mellitus 20 . However, a recent large population based case–control study was unable to establish the last two factors as having an association with EPH 1 .…”

“…Recent studies suggest that peripartum hysterectomy is associated with cesarean delivery (1,5–8). This finding is particularly worrying given the steady increase of cesarean section deliveries in many countries, such as Italy, where the proportion of cesarean deliveries is one of the highest in the world (38% of all deliveries) (9).…”
