Perioperative outcomes of frenectomy using laserversusconventional surgery: a systematic review

Abstract: Introduction: Frenectomy is an oral surgical procedure usually performed with a scalpel. Several authors recently reported the interest of laser, as a minimally invasive and efficient alternative tool to perform frenectomy. This study aimed to compare the perioperative management of patients requiring a frenectomy using scalpel versus laser. Materials and methods: A systematic review of the literature has been carried out from Pubmed and Scopus databases following PRISMA guidelines. PICO method was used to sel… Show more

“…Lasers are becoming increasingly popular in the field of dentistry providing alternative to conventional scalpel procedures and can be employed for frenectomy procedures but selection of it according to the type of attachment is important for the achievement of proper functional and aesthetic result. 10 In the present case reports, the papillary frenum was present which was surgically excised using classical conventional technique. This was simple to perform, and desirable results were obtained with complete patient satisfaction.…”

“…Studies using various types of lasers to manage soft tissue procedures have demonstrated successful clinical results (10)(11)(12). Although advantages such as shorter operation time, hemostasis, and reduced postoperative pain have been reported with the use of laser techniques in frenectomy operations, there is no consensus on the benefits of this application (13). In particular, the results obtained from various studies regarding the usage of Diode laser in Frenectomy are variable (14).…”
