Perioperative Gastric Emptying Is Not a Predictor of Early Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting in Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Abstract: The incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting is frequent after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This study has shown that perioperative gastric emptying is not a predictor of early postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

“…As a common substitute for traditional open cholecystectomy, LC has been introduced in cholelithiasis management; however, the evidence shows excessive episodes of PONV after LC. [ 18 19 ] Many studies have been conducted to evaluate the efficacy of different antiemetic medications in preventing PONV after LC, with a variable success rate. Such medication may also be problematic in terms of side effects including hypotension, dysphoria, excessive sedation, hallucination and dry mouth.…”
