“…In the rare clinical situation of aortic coarctation combined with aortic stenosis, treatment of the coarctation with stents may have an important role. In this, stent implantation avoids the operative hazards of treating both conditions surgically21 and makes subsequent aortic valve surgery more straightforward. We encountered a low incidence of complications at the level of vascular access.…”

“…The extra-anatomic bypass seems to be a relatively safe alternative that allows simultaneous repair of intracardiac lesions and AC, avoids the hemodynamic perturbation of the second lesion in case of staged procedure and provides good results [1] [2]. Although, this approach can sometimes be responsible of complications; in 1996, Pethig [1] [14] reported hemodynamic instability in 2 patients early after aortic valve replacement and extra-anatomic bypass for AC. This complication was believed to be due to myocardial ischemia related to low diastolic perfusion pressure in severely hypertrophied hearts.…”

“…Polytetrafluoroethylene ringed grafts are used for this procedure by some groups in an effort to reduce the po-tential complications of graft kinking and narrowing. Additional potential late complications include infection, false aneurysms, and anastomotic dehiscence with pseudoaneurysm formation in patients who have considerable somatic growth after repair [1] [14].…”

“…There are several reports of the outcomes of this operative procedure [12][13][14][15] indicating favorable operative results. However, Pethig, et al 16) reported heart failure and life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias in patients with one-stage aortic valve repair and extra-anatomic bypass grafting for coarctation of the aorta. These complications may be attributable to global myocardial ischemia and impaired coronary blood supply in the hypertrophied hearts with a low perfusion pressure.…”
