Periodic Mesoporous Organosilicas

Abstract

Periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs) represent a promising new class of organic–inorganic nanocomposite materials in which the organic and inorganic moieties are covalently linked and homogeneously distributed at molecular level. This review retrospected the discovery and development of PMOs in terms of rational synthesis based on the concept of supramolecular self‐assembly. The main focus is on precursors and crystal‐like PMOs. We also highlight the recent achievements regarding compositions and mesostructures, morphologies, and applications in the field. Furthermore, we present an outlook about the promising future perspectives of PMOs that result from the latest developments.
