“…There are many ways of accomplishing such endeavours. Qualitative researchers in general have long discussed the lack of a boilerplate (Pratt, 2009) for moving from empirical stories to theoretical stories towards sound conceptual contributions, especially when relying on large-scale qualitative process data (Abdallah et al, 2019).…”

“…We were motivated to develop this article by the perception that while there have been multiple calls to engage in non-propositional forms of theorizing, and in particular to develop conceptual contributions in the form of process models (Cornelissen, 2017; Delbridge & Fiss, 2013), the literature offers very little in the way of guidelines about how to achieve this. Scholars have written much about how to theorize using process data (Jarzabkowski, Lê, & Spee, 2017; Langley, 1999; Van de Ven, 1992; Abdallah, Lusiani, & Langley, 2019), but not so much (at least explicitly) about how to do so in the absence of empirical material collected deliberately for that purpose. Our review of 82 conceptual articles from AMR and OS enabled us to identify four generic styles of process theorizing that could offer ideas and direction for future work.…”

“…Based on connections between actors found in the individual interviews, the sensemaking process of the collective embedded unit of customers is constructed following the principle of a composite narrative (Jarzabkowski et al , 2014), but depicted as usual in the systems view and thus a visual narrative suiting the analysis approach better than a textual one. Qualitative and processual research's use of vignettes to convince the reader that findings are grounded in data (Abdallah et al , 2019) is transformed to glimpses into the analysis procedure displaying both photos and citations grounded in data, thematic coding and gerund coding as well as the mapping out of micro-systems. Due to this transformational action, only a few citations are applied in reporting on the findings in Section 5 as often used in qualitative research (Abdallah et al , 2019).…”
