Performance study of large area encoding readout MRPC

Abstract: A: Muon tomography system built by the 2-D readout high spatial resolution Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chamber (MRPC) detector is a project of Tsinghua University. An encoding readout method based on the fine-fine configuration has been used to minimize the number of the readout electronic channels resulting in reducing the complexity and the cost of the system. In this paper, we provide a systematic comparison of the MRPC detector performance with and without fine-fine encoding readout. Our results suggest that… Show more

“…Then the position resolution of the MRPC can be easily obtained from the distribution of the reconstructed position. To evaluate the effectiveness of the simulation, the simulation results are compared to the X ray test [19] carried out in our lab last year. The layout of the test platform is shown in figure 9.…”

“…Thanks to the encoding readout system, only 30 electronic readout channels were needed for more than 200 detector strips. The number of electronic channels decreases 7 times with respect to the direct readout configuration, with clear benefits on the complexity and the cost of the proposed system [21].…”
