The main cause of outbreaks of Legionnaires' disease is from contaminated water sources. About 3 in 10 cases of Legionnaires' disease are due to poorly maintained water storage in buildings. A Tankless water heater can reduce your water-heating bill by five percent to fifty percent or more. A Tankless water heater is a continuous flow of hot water because it instantly heats the water as it goes through the heater. The question is if the Tankless water heater is more efficient than the tank water heater? In our experiment, using Water Quality Management methods, the water heater tank was verified as a source of ubiquitous bacteria’s that can cause health problems to users. Are the solar hot water systems also dangerous? The use of solar energy is very prospective and in the future it will be used in various sectors. The subject of the paper is a simulation of the operational modes of hot water preparation focused on its temperature and energy impact.

This paper concerns the thermo-hydraulic performance analysis of a PCSWH (parabolic concentrating solar water heater) with placing the PTT (perforated twisted tape) in the absorber tube. The experiments are performed using water as testing fluid. In this analysis, the mass flow rate changes from 0.0326 kg/s to 0.0667 kg/s and Reynolds number ranges from 2100 to 4250 respectively. The analysis is based on the effect of porosity of the PTT and mass flow rate over the pressure drop and heat transfer enhancement during the flow into the absorber tube of the PCSWH. At last to guess the increment in pressure drop and enhancement of heat transfer the empirical correlations for friction factor and the Nusselt number have been formulated considering the turbulent effect caused by PTT inside the absorber tube. The major observations of this analysis are that PTT enhances the pressure drop and heat transfer and also both enhances with increasing porosity of the PTT.

Abstract:The thermal enhancement of parabolic trough collectors is a critical issue and numerous ideas have been applied in the literature on this domain. The objective of this paper is to investigate some usual thermal enhancement techniques for improving the performance of evacuated and non-evacuated receivers of parabolic trough solar collectors. More specifically, the use of twisted tape inserts, perforated plate inserts, and internally finned absorbers are compared with the reference case of the smooth absorber. The analysis is conducted with a developed and validated thermal model in Engineering Equation Solver. The collector is investigated for a typical flow rate of 100 L/min and for inlet temperatures between 50 • C and 350 • C with Syltherm 800 as working fluid. According to the final results, the use of internally finned absorber leads to the highest thermal efficiency enhancement, which is up to 2.1% for the non-evacuated collector and up to 1.6% for the evacuated tube collector. The perforated plate inserts and the twisted tape inserts were found to lead to lower enhancements, which are up to 1.8% and 1.5%, respectively, for the non-evacuated collector, while they are up to 1.4% and 1.2%, respectively, for the evacuated collector. Moreover, the pressure drop increase with the use of the thermal enhancement methods is investigated and the use of internally finned absorber is found again to be the superior technique with the performance evaluation criterion to be ranged from 1.5 to 1.8 for this case.
